The Space Between What I Do and Who I Am

There are days when my work feels like a natural extension of who I am, and other days when it feels like something I carry.

And there are days when it feels like something I carry. Both can be true. I am a speech-language pathologist. I am a business owner. I am a writer and a creative. None of these exist in isolation, yet they do not always move together in harmony. Some days one takes the lead while the others patiently wait for their turn.

For a long time, I thought clarity meant choosing. Deciding which version of myself would be most useful, most productive, most acceptable. But life has shown me that the hesitation, the tension I feel is not confusion. It's growth.

There is a space between what I do and who I am, and this space is not empty. It is filled with reflection. Here, I remember that my value is not limited to my output, credentials, or the roles I perform for others. Running a business has taught me many practical things. It has also revealed how easy it is lose touch with myself when responsibilities get loud and become overwhelming. When schedules fill. The systems multiply. The expectations creep in. If I am not paying attention, I begin to measure myself only by what I produce.

Writing pulls me back.

It reminds me that I am allowed to think slowly, that not every thought needs to be a Grammarly polished-perfect plan. Sometimes clarity comes from articulating what I am still learning rather than forcing certainty too soon.

As someone who works in communication, I understand the profound impact when language skills are impaired. In our line of work, we become fluent in meeting needs, solving problems, and holding space for others, yet somewhere along the way, our inner voice can often grow quieter.

This space between what I do and who I am is where I listen for that voice. Some days, I discover clarity; other days, I encounter more questions. Both are necessary.

Language Lounge was created to foster communication, connection, and care. Yet, beneath the services, the scheduling, and structure lies a human being who thinks in stories, dreams in color, creates in bursts, and often wanders without knowing where an idea will lead her.

I don't believe we were meant to confine ourselves to a single identity that fits neatly on a business card or tabs on a file folder.

We are layered, constantly evolving and shifting with the changing seasons. Today, I'm learning to embrace that.
